SERVICE ABOVE SELF
Founded in 1968, the Orange Rotary Club of Connecticut is a volunteer organization of business and professional women and men who want to make a positive difference in the community. We are a hands-on club, helping those in need in Orange, across the greater New Haven region and around the world. Our passionate members are dedicated to the Rotary motto, 'Service Above Self.'
We annually provide more than $30,000 to area charities and organizations thanks to our fundraisers - The LobsterFest, the Thanksgiving Road Race, and Mother’s Day Rose Sale. The money we raise goes to food pantries and veterans groups, youth programs, literacy programs, senior care and scholarships.
We also give our time and effort to great causes such as:
- Food2Kids
- Community Shred Day
- Medical Equipment Lending Program
- Tutoring and Mentoring
In addition, every week volunteers serve dinner to members of the American Legion and their families. We also annually provide $8,000 in scholarships for high school students from Orange who wish to pursue higher education.
SERVICE AND MORE
In addition to fundraising and projects, we provide substantial scholarships for Orange students to pursue higher education, and we sponsor an annual public speaking contest.
As part of Rotary International, one of the world’s largest service organizations with 1.2 million members, Orange Rotary is also involved globally, working on projects to provide clean water, improve education and, most famously, help in the fight against polio. Since 1988, Rotary International’s End Polio Now campaign (EndPolio.org) has immunized more than 2.5 billion children in 122 countries and reduced polio cases worldwide by 99.9 percent.
And Orange Rotarians don’t just give; they go. Every year, Rotarians travel abroad to assist local initiatives. For 2018, Orange members traveled to Kenya and the Dominican Republic to work on school and medical projects.
The club, which celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2018, has a membership of 40 Rotarians who reside or work in Orange.
